About this experience
This tour is for those who want to combine pleasure with learning: discover the history of the ancient land - the Apsheron Peninsula, and relax on the shores of the Caspian Sea. You will see the main gems of Azerbaijan - the Gobustan mud volcanoes and the 'Burning Mountain' Yanardag, explore ancient rock art, and take a swim at the beach. If you wish, we will also visit the world's first tanker-museum.
What to Expect
- We will head south - to the Gobustan Reserve. We will explore rock art from the Stone Age and enjoy the mesmerizing landscapes of giant boulders. Along the way, the guide will tell you about the life and traditions of the locals.
- Next stop - mud volcanoes. There are around 1300 such volcanoes in the world, and the largest concentration is on the Apsheron Peninsula, including the highest one - Torogay (410 m).
- Time to relax! We will take you to a cozy beach, where you will have about 2 hours of free time. Here you can also taste fresh sturgeon at one of the restaurants.
- On the way back, we will visit Yanardag - the mountain where tongues of flame erupt from the ground. The first mentions of it date back to the 6-7th centuries. For millennia, pilgrims - Zoroastrians, followers of the fire religion, have come here.
- If desired, we can visit the world's first tanker museum 'Surakhani'. Inside is a real tanker that was used to transport oil across the Caspian Sea. You will see models of the largest ships, learn about the history of global navigation and the oil industry of Baku. You will also learn how to tie maritime knots and transmit information through Morse code.
During the tour, the guide will tell you about all the stages of Baku's development, the oil boom, local culture and cuisine, and also give advice on what else is worth seeing in this amazing city where the past mixes with the present.
