About this experience
Simatai is the most atmospheric and remote section from Beijing. Here you can imagine how the great structure looked in ancient times and feel the spirit of that history. You will climb the wall and overlook the surroundings from the top. And then you will head to explore an inauthentic but extremely interesting place - the 'ancient-style' village, replicating ancient Chinese water towns.
What to Expect
Simatai Section
For several years it was closed for reconstruction and only recently started welcoming travelers. The length of the section is over 5 km. Here you will see 35 watchtowers against impressive landscapes.
Gubei Water Town
The entrance to the Simatai section is located near the Gubei village. This town is built in the style of the Qing and Ming dynasties. Without going far from Beijing, you can get an idea of how ancient water towns looked like - U-town, Zhouzhuang, and Tunli. You will admire colorful canals, semicircular tall bridges, and stylized houses. Optionally, visit the distillery where Chinese vodka is made.
Additionally, on the tour, you will learn about tea-drinking traditions and get acquainted with ancient Chinese medicine.
