About this experience
Rapa Nui, or Easter Island, is one of the most remote inhabited islands in the Pacific Ocean and one of the most mystical places on the planet. During this journey, you will hear myths, legends, and interpretations about the ancient Moai statues that remain a mystery to researchers. Learn about the traditions, art, and language of the local inhabitants. Appreciate the beauty of the landscapes and feel the unique atmosphere of the island.
What to Expect
During the trip, you will be accompanied by me and a local driver-guide. According to Rapa Nui rules regarding sacred objects, statues can only be visited with a native resident. I will guide you along the way and act as a translator at the sites.
Ahu Akivi - you will see seven statues facing the sea, while all others are looking at the island. Why is that? Let's discuss together.
Vinapu - we will examine walls with remarkably precise stone fitting and quality masonry.
Puna Pau - visit a small crater with red tuff rock, where ancient Rapa Nui carved "red hats" for the Moai statues.
Orongo - here you will learn about the ancient "Birdman" ceremony, where participants on the crater's edge underwent tests of strength and agility, competing for the role of the "Birdman." I will explain the symbolism of the ritual.
Akahanga - legend connects this place with a possible burial site of Hotu Matu'a, the great leader who brought the first settlers to the island.
Rano Raraku - the "factory" of Moai statues on the slopes of the volcano. Before you stands the most recognizable symbol of the island, embodying the greatness of ancient craftsmen.
Ahu Tongariki - afterwards, we will explore 15 more statues lined along the platform. Here, you will appreciate the atmosphere of one of the most impressive places in Rapa Nui.
Te Pito Kura, or the "Navel of the World" - I will tell you about the stone with special magnetic properties and the largest of all statues ever placed on a platform.
Anakena - as a conclusion, you will visit a beach with white sand, where the beauty of nature meets the heritage of an ancient civilization.
