About this experience
The beauties of Tahiti are hidden behind inconspicuous turns, unnoticed signs, and sometimes not marked at all, which makes their independent search extremely difficult. With me, you will see the most impressive places of the island, visit paradise beaches and cool caves, explore a Polynesian sanctuary, and a picturesque waterfall. You will hear stories about the lives and customs of the Tahitians; learn about the production of 'Monoi de Tahiti' oil; visit fragrant water gardens and hear local legends. As a result, you will see that Tahiti is not just a transit point on the way to the world-famous resort of Bora Bora, but a colorful and interesting island worth attention.
Two Excursion Options
- Half-Day Tour: will give you a general overview of the island. You will see the most beautiful and vibrant places of Tahiti, get acquainted with the Polynesian way of life, and learn about the lives of the Tahitians.
- Full-Day Tour: an extended version of the half-day tour, with more flexibility in time and route length, as well as additional stops and options. This option is suitable for those who want to explore the island from different angles, better understand its history, and the mentality of the locals.
Half-Day Tour
Beaches, Polynesian Sanctuary, and Caves
From the observation deck, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the Papeete lagoon and the central port of the island with ships coming and going. Next stop will be at a black volcanic sand beach, where you can feel the lazy atmosphere of a tropical island. You will also visit a marae - a Polynesian sanctuary, where not long ago ceremonies with offerings to the Polynesian gods were held. After visiting the outdoor Polynesian temple, the coolness of the Maraa caves will delight you, where transparent water drips from rocks, falling into picturesque ponds, and the darkness, covering the inner part of the caves, reminds of Polynesian legends about terrifying creatures living in the depths, and brave heroes who defeated them.
Water Gardens, 'Whistling Hole', and 'Three Waterfalls'
Not far from the Maraa caves are the water gardens, a walk along their picturesque paths will give you an idea of the vegetation on the island, and also allow you to enjoy the fresh aromas of flowers. At the stop called 'Three Waterfalls', you will admire the picturesque view of a two-hundred-meter waterfall, which you can approach closely. According to one of my guests, the platform in front of the waterfall is an ideal place for meditation. In close proximity to the waterfall is a famous tourist attraction called the 'Whistling Hole'. Waves crashing into an underwater cave from the ocean side get trapped, pushing air to the surface through a small opening. The air with a creepy noise sharply rushes out of the hole, scaring the visitors of the place who stand nearby waiting for the attraction to repeat every 20 seconds.
Full-Day Tour
Extended version of the short tour with a more flexible program
In addition to the main attractions listed above, you will visit the production of 'Monoi de Tahiti' oil and learn about the process of making this famous Tahitian product. You will also visit Venus Point, where one of the most beautiful public beaches is located, and visit other beaches on the island. Moreover, you will visit the most natural and sparsely populated part of Tahiti, where you will encounter wild untouched nature and magnificent views at every turn.
You can feel the atmosphere of the local life by attending a service at the village church, where residents gather. You will learn about the history of the island from the arrival of the first people to the present day in a thematic museum. We can also stop by a pearl shop, where jewelers offer their products at the most interesting prices.
Halfway through, we will stop for lunch in a very picturesque place near the beach by the ocean.
