About this experience
Dushanbe translates from Tajik as Monday. Ever wondered why the city got this name? Find out on the tour! In half a day, we will visit the main attractions of the capital of Tajikistan. You will see the largest statue of Buddha in the world, taste traditional tea, climb the Independence stele, and learn how many people actually live in Dushanbe.
What to Expect
- Our tour will start at Aini Opera and Ballet Theatre, where prima ballerina Malika Sobirova, People's Artist of the USSR, once performed. The theater is still open and attracts full houses to its performances.
- Located nearby is the National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan. Besides coins and other artifacts found on our land, there lies grandly the statue of Buddha - the largest in the world. You will learn how it appeared here.
- Afterwards, we will walk along Rudaki Avenue, see the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan, the Dushanbe Plaza building, and reach the Statue of Ismail Samani - the founder of our state.
- Behind the monument are the Palace of the Nation, Rudaki Park, and National Flag Park with one of the tallest flagpoles in the world standing at 165 m. This flagpole made its way into the Guinness Book of Records. We will tell you how this record was set and by whom.
- We will reach the famous Rokhat teahouse, drink tea from a traditional bowl as a ritual. Then we will climb the Independence Stele, which will reveal the city center to you from a bird's eye view.
Along the way, the guide will tell you interesting facts from the history of Dushanbe. You will learn what the city was like before and what it has become, why it got its name (which translates from Tajik as Monday), and how many people actually live here. It will be fascinating, we promise!
