About this experience
Bukhara is a real open-air museum. There is a bit of everything here: magnificent mosques, madrasas, mausoleums, fortresses, and trading domes. I will tell you about the past and present life of the city. About local customs, traditions, dialects, food, and the local dish 'oshi sof'. About Zoroastrians, Jews, and Muslims. And of course, about the daily life of the Bukharians.
What to Expect
Amazing Bukhara
You will stroll through the Old City and visit all the iconic places. The tour program includes:
- Samani Mausoleum - you will appreciate this architectural masterpiece erected 1100 years ago from burnt brick. I will tell you who the Samanids were and what they were famous for.
- Holy Job's Spring - I will show you the holy spring from the 12th century, created by the biblical prophet, and share the legend associated with it.
- Bolo-Hauz Mosque - an incredibly beautiful Friday mosque with masterfully made brickwork and graceful wooden galleries. It will be an opportunity to talk about the folk craft of wood carving.
- Ark Citadel - the residence of the rulers of Bukhara throughout the city's existence. You will hear about the significant events that took place here.
- Poi-Kalon Ensemble - I will show you this magnificent complex, consisting of ancient minarets, a mosque, and a madrasa. I will reveal how it survived the invasion of Genghis Khan and the overthrow of the Emir of Bukhara.
- Trading Domes - you will learn about the cunning marketing trick applied during their construction.
- Ulugh Beg Madrasa - you will admire its original interior and hear about the vain ruler from the Ashtarkhanid dynasty.
- Magoki-Attori Mosque - I will decipher its connection to three religions: Zoroastrianism, Islam, and Judaism.
- Lyabi-Khauz Ensemble - the favorite resting place of all guests and residents. In summer, fountains work here, children bathe in them. At the sight of this scene, the soul begins to rejoice.
