About this experience
Bukhara is a city of legends, amazing events, and fantastic architecture. I will tell you what happened to it in ancient times, in Soviet times, and nowadays. How it became a center of civilization in the Islamic world and what secrets of "building for centuries" our ancestors knew. And we will also take a peek at the real Eastern bazaar!
What to Expect
Bukhara in Detail
You will walk through the Old Town, admire the ancient trading domes, and visit all significant places. The tour program includes:
- Lyab-i Hauz Square - a favorite resting and meeting place for the townspeople. I will share the legends associated with it.
- Maqbarah-i Ismail Samani - it does not stand out in size, blue domes, or colorful mosaics. Nevertheless, we will visit it! Why - you will learn on the tour.
- Chashma-Ayub Mausoleum - here I will tell you about the much-suffering and patient Job. This is a biblical character also mentioned in the Quran.
- Bolo Hauz Mosque - some say it was built in honor of the Bukhara ruler's mother. Others believe that the emir built it to get closer to the people. Let's try to understand both versions.
- Ark Fortress - you will hear how it was built, destroyed, and restored. How it became the residence of local rulers and what event preceded the fleeing of the last emir Alimkhan.
- Poi Kalyan Architectural Ensemble - you will decipher the meaning of the expression "rahmati kalon". And also uncover why the medrese of the ensemble was called the "place of mourning for 3000 slaves" and why inside the mosque a mausoleum was made in honor of the city's children and elders.
- Ulugbek Medrese - its general layout is typical for the medrese of that time. But the decoration is quite unusual. We will focus on that!
- Magoki Attori Mosque - its name can be translated as "mosque in a pit". I will reveal how exactly this is related to the building's location.
