About this experience
My tour is not a boring lecture, but a lively conversation about the life of the city's residents. You will learn the most important things about the history and monuments of Istanbul, stroll along the bustling Istiklal Street, see the Topkapi Palace and mosques in the Old City. We will walk along the Beyoglu waterfront, visit a local market, and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in a cozy cafe overlooking the Bosphorus. On this walk, you will see the city through the eyes of a local and discover the real, non-touristy Istanbul.
What to Expect
Colorful Beyoglu
You will get acquainted with the history of the district, considered the heart of Istanbul. Explore the architecture of different eras in its buildings, passages, and alleys. Walk along the famous Istiklal Street, where life never stops. Here expensive restaurants and cheap eateries coexist, temples of all confessions and nightclubs. The legendary red tram, one of the symbols of our city, will pass by. We will see the Galata Tower and talk about the Russian emigration that contributed to the construction of the Shishhane district.
Must-see Places
In the Old City, you will see the unique Blue Mosque with its six minarets, built by a disciple of the great architect Sinan. We will visit Istanbul's Muslim and at the same time Christian landmark - Hagia Sophia. Take a walk in Gulhane Park, where once rested Roxolana, the wife of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. I will tell you about the palace of the Turkish sultans, Topkapi, and the rules established in its harem.
In Ortakoy District
We will admire the Bosphorus Strait and the famous bridge connecting the European and Asian parts of Istanbul. You will see the Maiden's Tower and hear different versions of its legend. I will show you a local market where you can buy souvenirs and try Turkish sweets at 'non-touristy' prices. After the walk, I suggest relaxing in a cafe, drinking real Turkish tea or coffee, and optionally trying a local hookah.
I Will Reveal All Secrets
I will show you how Turks live today, how they relax after work, and what they do in their free time. I will tell you where it is best to buy souvenirs, reveal the addresses of the most atmospheric historical cafes and excellent restaurants. I will share tips for tourists and explain where and how to advantageously purchase a museum card, which will facilitate visits to historical sites and museums.
