What to expect
Non-touristy Venice
Our route starts from the Santa Lucia train station: through deserted streets we begin the journey to the heart of the city - San Marco. We start with the Dorsoduro district, home to the Giudecca canal, the famous Accademia gallery, and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Then we move to the San Polo district - This ancient district was known as a trading center as far back as 1097. Here you will see the church of San Giacomo di Rialto, founded in the 9th century, the basilica of Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco.
Main highlights of Venice
Leaving the residential quarters behind, we will come out to the city's main artery - the Grand Canal. Every wealthy Venetian family considered it their duty to build a palace on its banks - and now you can see a unique open-air museum on the water. And one of the most famous palaces - Ca' Vendramin Calergi, where composer Wagner died on the steps of the "Casino di Venezia". Leaving the canal behind, we will end up at St. Mark's Square - the city's postcard. Here you will see St. Mark's Basilica, the Procuratie, the Clock Tower, the Campanile, the Paper Gate, the columns of St. Mark and St. Theodore, the Marciana Library, the Doge's Palace, the Bridge of Sighs, the Florian Cafe.
