Uskudar and Kuzguncuk: quest excursion through two worlds of Istanbul
About this experience
An exciting quest through two neighboring but so different districts will help you take a look inside the heart of Asian Istanbul. We will explore the mosques of conservative Uskudar, where stories about sultans, artists, and great architects will come to life within the walls. And then we will move to the alleys of 'gingerbread' Kuzguncuk to discover interesting plots among the colorful houses.
What to expect
Legends of Uskudar
The first part of our quest route will lead through the streets and magnificent waterfront of conservative Uskudar. You will hear the legend of the Maiden's Tower and visit ancient mosques, hiding not only exquisite ornaments behind their walls but also stories of the Ottoman Empire. You will learn about an artist who was friends with a sultan but threw the sultan's gifts into the sea. You'll recall the only daughter of Suleiman the Magnificent and, completing the quest tasks, decipher the code of the great architect Mimar Sinan. And in the courtyard of one of Uskudar's mosques, we will talk about the 'Tulip King,' the secret language of the harem, and other secrets of Istanbul.
Colorful labyrinth of Kuzguncuk
A couple of stops from Uskudar — and you are already in a completely different world called Kuzguncuk. Cozy streets, a miniature waterfront, wonderful 'gingerbread' houses, soulful local residents who know each other: everything in Kuzguncuk seems created to let you slow down, enjoy simple pleasures, and forget about everything, strolling among the colorful facades.
