About this experience
Turkestan is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia and the spiritual capital of the Turkic world. We will show you its most important places: the famous mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi, the underground mosque of Hilvet, and the fortress walls. We will share the traditions of the Kazakh people in Ethnoaul and talk about modern life in the innovative tourist complex 'Keruen Sarai'.
What to Expect
Ethnoaul (30 minutes). Here you will get acquainted with ancient Kazakh traditions and customs. You will walk along the street of craftsmen, see yurts, an ancient well, and national swings 'altybakan'.
Museum-Reserve 'Azret Sultan' (2.5 hours). This is the hallmark of Turkestan. You will walk along the recently restored fortress wall, visit the underground mosque of Hilvet, and peek into a medieval bathhouse. You will also admire the magnificent mausoleum of the founder of the Sufi order, Khoja Ahmed Yasawi.
Modern complex 'Keruen Sarai' (1-2 hours). Opened quite recently, it introduces guests to the history and modern life of Turkestan. There is so much to see here: picturesque canals, fountains, trading halls with eastern architecture, and colorful cafes.
