About this experience
Every spring, thousands of delicate buds bloom in Istanbul, turning the whole city into a venue for the annual Tulip Festival. We will discover beautiful floral compositions on the central streets, in the picturesque Emirgan Park, and in the colorful markets, while also trying to understand how the tulip conquered the entire Ottoman Empire.
What to Expect
Blooming Streets of Istanbul
I will lead you to the most spectacular places of the Tulip Festival - from the heart of Istanbul to its blooming outskirts. We will stroll through the streets of Eminonu, discuss the bright events of Turkish history from the Roman Empire to our days, admire the Suleymaniye Mosque, and take a look at the spicy Egyptian Market for a dose of eastern vibes. And then we will head to Emirgan Park on the shores of the Bosphorus - here the concentration of floral masterpieces will reach its peak! You will enjoy the tulip parade and capture the beauty created by florists in photographs.
Of Sultans and Tulips
At the center of our attention will be the symbol of Turkey - the tulip flower, which for centuries adorned the coat of arms of the rulers of the Ottoman Empire. You will learn about its history and role in the culture of Istanbul, understand why houses, utensils, palace facades, clothing, and carpets were decorated with tulip ornaments. You will hear about the rare specimens of the flower, which were valued at the sultan's court no less than treasures. And I will also tell you about the long-standing rivalry between Turkey and the Netherlands for the right to be considered the world capital of tulips.
