About this experience
On a walking tour through the historical center, you will immerse yourself in the world of monumental monuments of Byzantium and the Ottoman era, hear about secret relics and details of the reign of the great sultans. You will visit the ancient and very atmospheric Hookah Garden, appreciate the color of historical bazaars, and find out where to taste truly authentic dishes.
What to expect
Symbols without which the capital cannot be imagined
We will visit the ancient Hippodrome square, where I will tell you about the most important and massive secular institution in Constantinople. We will look at the outside of Hagia Sophia, the main church of Byzantium, and we will definitely hear the story of its unique construction, handcrafted wonders, and more. I will also introduce you to the details of the Blue Mosque - the most important in the capital (external tour). And in the Suleymaniye Mosque, where the tombs of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Hurrem are located, we will talk about the grand construction of the Ottoman era, which has been a part of the history since the mid-16th century, and one of the most famous love stories.
Flavors and aromas of Istanbul
The program will also include Medrese Ali Pasha Hookah Garden - a very atmospheric place where you will learn about a tea house with a 300-year history, taste incredibly delicious teas, and enjoy the hookah. Visit the famous Grand Bazaar - one of the largest covered markets in the world and the brightest example of Eastern color. In addition, I will reveal the most authentic places in Istanbul "for locals", where they cook real dishes of the local cuisine. And at the end of the walk, I will show you the best pastry shops and stores where you can buy the most delicious Turkish sweets, spices, and gifts.
Undiscovered facts and non-touristy spots
In addition to reviewing popular attractions, I will ensure that you feel part of local life if only for a moment. On ancient alleys and renovated avenues away from tourist hustle and bustle, you will familiarize yourself with the rhythm of ordinary Istanbul life. At Chemberlitash square, legends about the buried basket from which Jesus distributed bread will await you. Near the beautiful and absolutely non-touristy Theodosius Cistern, you will learn how water storage constructions were approached in Istanbul and why they resembled palaces. You will see Little Hagia Sophia - a prototype of Hagia Sophia, Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, as well as the hidden Underground Palace away from prying eyes.
