Trip to the ancient city of Gyumri, Metsamor and Sardarapat with a film director-documentarian
About this experience
This tour is not a superficial visit to places, but a thoughtful and meaningful immersion into the deep layers of Armenian history. It is an honest and unbiased story about the world's oldest civilization. I want to show you everything spiritual and important. My tour is for those who are sincerely interested in culture and history, and want to expand their knowledge in this field.
What to expect
Metsamor
This large settlement originated in the third millennium BC. Metsamor was famous for its foundry copies, which have survived to this day. Not far from the copies was the ancient settlement of Vagharshapat, the archaeological artifacts of which are exhibited in the museum. I will help you immerse yourself in past epochs and expand your understanding of historical time.
Sardarapat Memorial Complex
It was built in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Sardarapat, where the Armenian army fought Turkish hordes in 1918. Russian generals and officers who did not leave the Caucasian front after the revolution also fought in the army. Many brave souls perished, and their memory is immortalized on the Victory Wall. Here is also one of the first early Christian monuments from the 3rd-4th centuries, built on the site of the oldest pagan temple dedicated to John the Baptist.
Gyumri
The culmination of the trip will be a visit to Gyumri (formerly Alexandrapol), where I will show you unique examples of Russian-Armenian architecture from the 19th century. Gyumri, the third most important city in the Caucasus during the Russian Empire, was built according to a unified architectural plan. I will tell you more about this. Small, cozy, and respectful of ancient traditions, Gyumri is unique in its cuisine. At every turn, you can taste the culinary delights of this region.
