About this experience
I will introduce you to the epochs of Armenian history through living examples: the capital - my warm Yerevan, the pagan temple of Garni, and of course, the monastery complex of Geghard - a masterpiece of medieval architecture. You will see a rich collection of contemporary art, descend to the 'basalt organ', and attend a master class on baking Armenian lavash bread.
What to expect
Yesterday and today's Yerevan
We will explore the city center, where many milestones of Armenian history intertwine, and discuss the modern life of the capital. At the Freedom Square, you will see the famous opera and ballet theater, and then, strolling along the main pedestrian street, you will find yourself at the beautiful Republic Square - the epicenter of all cultural and political events in the country. In addition to the main attractions, I will show you cozy courtyards and secluded streets that preserve the spirit of Yerevan. Also, a rich collection of contemporary art at the 'Cascade' complex, where I will introduce you to the works of world-famous sculptors.
A corner of ancient Greece
The Garni Temple will transport us to Athens. A witness of the pre-Christian period, the ceremonial complex is a unique monument of paganism. Examining the facade, the ruins of baths, and mosaic fragments, you will get acquainted with ancient Armenian architecture, and I will tell you about the symbols and secret messages left by ancestors during the temple's construction, different riddles, and theories that have emerged from them.
If you wish, we will visit a village near Garni, where a master class awaits you on baking traditional Armenian lavash bread - intangible world heritage. Hot lavash, village cheese, herbs - an 'brdouch' (Armenian sandwich) will serve as the best snack. We will descend into the legendary 'Symphony in Stone' gorge, where you can enjoy incredible natural landscapes.
Amidst the majestic cliffs guarding Geghard
After the adoption of Christianity, new churches were built on the site of ancient pagan sanctuaries. Geghard was no exception - for several thousand years, the local holy spring has attracted pilgrims from all over the country. We will inspect the buildings of the historical complex: three churches, two narthexes, a sepulcher, and discuss the purpose of each structure. I will show you amazing bas-reliefs and reveal their symbolism, and if you wish, I will share a historical essay on Armenia's golden age.
After visiting the sanctuaries, we can visit a couple of picturesque locations where you can take bright memorable photos.
