Contrast Yerevan: ancient fortress, centuries-old slums, and modern center
About this experience
I really want to introduce you to my magical Yerevan. We will see the fortress where it all began, admire 1000-year-old khachkars, and have a cup of coffee in a merchant's house that not everyone can find. Of course, I will show you the main beauties of the capital. And also (if desired) we will visit the 15th-century slums of Yerevan - which, unlike the Brazilian ones, are not only colorful but also safe for walks.
What to expect
An unconventional city tour
You knew that Yerevan is 29 years older than Rome? I want to show you the city as it is, peeling off one historical layer after another and revealing a few spots "for insiders."
- You will marvel at the 3000-year-old fortress of Yerevan, where our history began.
- You will get acquainted with the art of khachkars (Armenian sculptures in the technique of the 11th century).
- You will have a cup of coffee in an 18th-century merchant's house, the entrance to which is not easy to find without a guide.
- You will stroll to several interesting houses: the building where the first president of Armenia lived, the ancient brothel, the place where Maxim Gorky visited. And much more!
- You will see the only functioning mosque in Armenia (and learn how the locals feel about it) and the oldest mosque in Yerevan, which has become a residential building - 7 generations of Yerevan residents have been living there.
Modern Yerevan and mysterious Yerevan
Of course, we will walk through the most beautiful places of the city. You will see the Mother Armenia monument, the famous Cascade - an open-air museum, and the central square of the capital. And if desired, I will show you the historic district of Kond, founded in the 15th century. These are the real slums of Yerevan, but unlike the Brazilian ones, they are safe for walks. I will tell you what this place was famous for in the Brezhnev era and guide you through its colorful streets.
