About this experience
On a journey to the northwest of the country, you will discover a city of extraordinary personalities, craftsmen, and humor. Get acquainted with its unique architecture and complex history, visit the colorful museums of Gyumri, and explore two monasteries from the 13th and 10th centuries. These monasteries are less known than other Armenian sanctuaries, allowing you to feel the spirit of the Middle Ages without tourist crowds.
What to Expect
Arichavank Monastery
About an hour and a half drive will take you to the religious complex from the 13th century. You will admire the original structure made of red tuff, learn about the history of this important spiritual center in Armenia, and enjoy a beautiful view of a deep gorge.
Unique Gyumri
- On a sightseeing tour, you will trace the history of the city from the 7th century BC to the present day
- Discover the peculiarities of local architecture
- Visit the Black Fortress of Nicholas II
- Learn about the development of crafts and arts, how Gyumri became the cultural capital of Armenia. Take part in a pottery workshop and visit local museums.
- We will share interesting facts about the city that rose from a devastating earthquake
- We will not overlook famous personalities associated with Gyumri and share some humorous stories about the city
Marmashen Monastery
Not far from Gyumri, you will explore another medieval landmark, a 10th-century monastery that played a significant role in the country's spiritual life. Here, you will also learn about the mysterious spring of Eginar.
