About this experience
The seaside town of Sitges, located near Barcelona, is widely known for its carnivals, flower festivals, and modernist villas. We will stroll along the beaches and atmospheric streets of Sitges, delve into the past, and witness how the town looked before. In preparing this tour, I worked with local archives and spoke to the residents of Sitges so you can fully understand and experience the Catalan capital of glamour, art, and film festivals!
What to Expect
Immerse Yourself in the Atmosphere of Sitges
We will walk through narrow streets with modernist mansions, take wonderful photos, explore the Street of Sin, and see what is now in the castle of a Moroccan king. In a local cellar, you will taste Catalan cava and malvasia – a type of wine made only in Sitges from grapes grown by the sea. Local winemakers have been keeping the recipe for malvasia for six centuries!
From a Fishing Village to the Epicenter of Glamour
During the tour, I will show you archival photos and materials that will reveal all the facets of Sitges and transport you to different eras. Witness how a fishing village transformed into a medieval town, then a city of arts, and eventually the capital of glamour and winemaking. You will see how the streets of Sitges looked in the past, learn why fishing houses became shelters for art lovers, and discover vibrant local traditions. Sitges is renowned throughout Catalonia for its carnivals and flower festivals.
After the tour, you can enjoy a delicious lunch at a restaurant or relax on one of Sitges' famous golden beaches!
