About this experience
The coastal town of Sitges near Barcelona is widely known for its carnivals, flower festivals, and modernist villas. We will stroll along the beaches and atmospheric streets of Sitges, immerse ourselves in the past, and see how the town looked before. In preparing for the tour, I worked with local archives and spoke to Sitges residents so that you can fully understand and feel the Catalan capital of glamour, art, and film festivals!
What to Expect
Immerse Yourself in the Atmosphere of Sitges
We will walk through narrow streets with modernist mansions, take wonderful photos, peek into the Street of Sin, and see what is now housed in the castle of the Moroccan king. In a local wine cellar, you will taste Catalan cava and malvasia - a wine made only in Sitges from grapes grown on the seaside. And the recipe for malvasia has been kept by local winemakers for six centuries!
From a Fishing Village to the Capital of Glamour
During the walk, I will show archival photos and materials that will reveal all the faces of Sitges and transport you to other eras. You will see how the fishing village became first a medieval town, then a city of art, and later - the capital of glamour and winemaking. You will see how the streets of Sitges looked in the past, learn why the fishermen's houses became a haven for art lovers, and get acquainted with vibrant local traditions. Sitges is famous throughout Catalonia for its carnivals and flower festivals.
After the tour, you can enjoy a delicious lunch at a cafe or stay on one of Sitges' famous golden beaches!
