About this experience
The amazing city of Haapsalu is famous for its seaside promenade, which was strolled by P. Tchaikovsky and ballerina Matilda Kshesinskaya, local scarves that are no worse than Orenburg ones, the ancient Order Castle, and the imperial railway station with the longest covered wooden platform in Europe. I will introduce you to the history of the city, tell you about the medieval way of life, legends, and the harsh life of Haapsalu through the prism of modernity.
Program
- The pride of the city is the 13th-century Order Castle, which, despite military turmoil, has been well preserved. We will go straight to it. We will walk through the Order stronghold, climb the fortress towers, learn about the life of the monastery, visit the Cathedral, on the wall of which the image of the 'White Lady' can be seen in the full moon, praising the immortality of love.
- But Haapsalu is not only an ancient stronghold but also the resort capital of Estonia. It was here that the healing properties of mud were discovered, and the first bathing establishment was founded. Gentlemen applied mud to their bodies and took sun baths on the beach. Hence the city's beach was named 'African'. One of the main attractions of the resort is Promenade—a waterfront that starts from the African beach. We will stroll along the Promenade, sit on Tchaikovsky's bench, and dine like royalty at the Kurhaus.
- Next, we will visit the Town Hall—now the regional museum, old churches, and the house of Peter the Great.
- We will end the tour by visiting the museum of locomotives and the 'imperial' style station.
- Having charged ourselves with impressions, we will head back and once again enjoy the clean nature of western Estonia.
