About this experience
In Lahemaa National Park, you will travel back in time. In addition to the wonderful nature and fishing villages, I will introduce you to beautiful manors, tell you about their noble residents, as well as about the life and entertainment of medieval Estonians and Baltic Germans. You will have the opportunity to taste local wines and dishes of the Estonian national cuisine, while enjoying picturesque views.
The translation of Lahemaa is 'land of bays.' Lahemaa National Park was established to preserve natural landscapes. Lahemaa is the beautiful nature of Estonia, pine forests, waterfalls, picturesque bogs, and alvars.
Program
- One of the gems of Lahemaa National Park is Palmse Manor. This manor once belonged to the famous noble family von der Pahlen. Palmse Manor is a unique architectural ensemble from the 18th century. I will tell you the history of this family.
- There is a wine cellar at the manor where you can enjoy the taste of Estonian wines. Few people know that the small country of Estonia, with no vineyards, produces quality wines.
- We will also visit Sagadi Manor, where scenes from the movie 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' were filmed.
- We will visit the home of a captain in the small fishing village of Käsmu.
- And the main adventure - a visit to medieval Rakvere Castle. Here, you will be transported back to the 16th century with real entertainment of those times: archery, spear throwing, an alchemist's laboratory where you can make gunpowder yourself, a torture chamber, a ghost, and even hell! At the castle, you will be greeted by a medieval townsfolk who will give you cloaks and accompany you on this exciting medieval journey.
- I will tell you about the life of the common people and Baltic Germans.
- Upon request, you can visit a tavern serving dishes of the Estonian national cuisine.
