About this experience
Travelers usually only explore the Old Town with all its undeniable charms, but overlook the fact that in Tallinn, beyond the historic core, lies the famous Kadriorg palace and park ensemble and other equally important heritage sites of Tallinn's history. On this self-drive tour, I will introduce you to these landmarks, share stories about events and characters that influenced the city's chronicles and appearance, about the modern life of the capital and its residents.
What to expect
- We will admire the palace ordered by Peter the Great for his beloved wife Catherine I. I will tell you about its history and Peter's role in Tallinn.
- You will see architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, discover the names and works of Tallinn's main architects and sculptors.
- We will visit the famous Song Festival Grounds, where every five years the famous song festivals take place. I will tell you about their origins.
- Next, we will explore a castle that was featured in our beloved Sherlock Holmes, in The Hound of the Baskervilles – in reality, it is the castle of Count Orlov-Davydov. We will talk about it and other famous nobles of Tallinn and their connections to Russia.
- Then we will visit the Pirita district – the territory holds the ruins of the Monastery of St. Bridget – the first female writer of Sweden. You will learn about her unusual fate and gift.
- In the same district, you will find the famous Olympic Village, built for the 1980 Olympics.
- Then you will see the famous monument to the battleship "Mermaid", I will tell you about its creator – the famous sculptor Amandus Adamson, whose works can also be found in Crimea.
- At the end of the tour, we will drive around the Old Town, admire its towers and spires. I will talk about the modern life, infrastructure, medicine and education of Tallinn, about the mentality and values of the city's residents.
