What to Expect
Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, warming the kingdom with its sun almost all year round, at the markets of Casablanca, you can drown in the abundance of fresh and ripe fruits, vegetables, dates, olives, and all sorts of other goodies.
And of course, sweets and pastries... Who in the East can go through a day without sipping a glass of green tea with mint alongside delicacies made from almond and honey? Delicious beyond words! We will definitely pause for tea together, try this authentic magical drink, and learn how to make real Moroccan tea.
Not to forget about souvenir items made of ceramics, leather, or engraved decorative products. The Habbous quarter, located a few meters from the royal palace in Casablanca, is filled with many small shops where everyone buys beautiful home accessories.
Narrow streets connect the bazaars into a whole: the olive market, the confectionery, the potteries. Nearby are antique shops selling unique trinkets. Here you can inexpensively buy high-quality leather and silk products or indulge in a piece of date cake. By the way, in this quarter stands the magnificent Mahkama du Pasha building – the palace of justice and reception for state affairs. And then – the Notre Dame de Lourdes church, a monumental structure with huge colorful stained glass windows.
Sometimes it seems that the variety of all goods resembles a sale of pirate treasures. And indeed, Casablanca in ancient times was indeed the cradle of pirates, who cleverly settled here on the way from the African continent to Europe and America.
The coast of West Africa from Casablanca to Dakar was inhabited by pirates who, in addition to pirate raids, also engaged in slave trade. On the promenade of Casablanca to this day stand small stone pillars with rings – slaves were attached to them with chains.
And finally... delightful gold jewelry, the 'friends' of Eastern women. Red, white, and yellow gold in Morocco are of very high quality - 18 carats. After the jewelry factory, inspired by the sparkle, you can buy yourself jewelry at an interesting price.
