About this experience
On the narrow streets of the Medina, I will introduce you to local customs, show you the main mosques, madrasas, palaces, and mausoleums of Fez - and immerse you in stories about the city mixed with tales of how life is lived here. You will also see the ancient Shuar dyeing plant, stroll in the shade of palms in the Sultan's garden, and, if you wish, visit a Moroccan ceramic factory.
What to expect
Hear the heartbeat of Morocco
Bright scents of mint in the streets, merchants singing as they offer goods to passersby, whitewashed walls of old buildings, a kaleidoscope of colorful patterns in the Arab style - as you walk through Fez, you will be completely immersed in its eastern color. In addition, you will get acquainted with a collection of sights that the Old City has absorbed. In our program:
- Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque-University - the oldest educational institution in all Arab states, which continues to operate today (listed by UNESCO);
- Mausoleum of Sultan Mulay Idris II, where the country's main saint and the founder of the first Moroccan city are buried;
- Royal Palace - a grandiose building in Arabic style, perfect for getting acquainted with Eastern architecture. After all, kings are built exemplars of national architecture;
- Al-Attarine Madrasa and Bou Inania Madrasa, Islamic educational institutions. If you are interested, I will gladly take you inside and tell you how Muslim children study;
- Chouara Tannery - the largest leather factory in Fez, still using ancient leather dyeing technologies. If you are not bothered by the strong smell, we will go inside and observe how the leather is processed, or climb to the roof of the house and look at the tannery from above.
- Jnan Sbil Garden, with a collection of centuries-old palm trees and bamboo groves.
A walk through the former possessions of Sultan Mulay Abdallah will be the perfect end to your acquaintance with Fez. And if you want to continue - I will take you to a ceramic factory, where you will see the process of creating pottery, which then moves to the countertops of city craftsmen :)
