About this experience
Visiting the only private residence in Rome, equivalent in importance to royal palaces, is a great opportunity as the museum is only open on Saturday mornings. Walking through the luxurious interiors, you will hear about the thousand-year history of military campaigns, thrilling adventures, intrigues, love, and the secrets of a family closely linked to the life of the Eternal City.
What to Expect
The Colonna Family Heritage
Walking through the halls of one of the most grandiose ancient palaces in the city, belonging to members of a noble family for over 20 generations, you will realize why it is called the Roman Versailles. Especially when you pass through the gallery, created in the likeness of the Hall of Mirrors in the French palace. In the splendor of the sunlight reflected by mirrors, marble, and gilding, we will talk about a thousand-year chain of military campaigns, famous scandals, dizzying glory, and inevitable love stories. For a while, you will find yourself in a world of intrigues of crowned persons, ringing slaps, and sea chases. Discover the "Italian trace" in Alexandre Dumas' novel and the analogue of the heroine "Angelique, the Marquise of the Angels", as well as hear about the thrilling real adventures of real characters.
Princess Isabella's Chambers and Art Gallery
Until recently, the private apartments of the princess were inaccessible to visitors. In the princess's chambers, which she showed in her last years of life like a treasure chest, you will examine carefully preserved interior elements and valuable items. You will uncover the secrets that connected the Colonna family with Michelangelo, Caravaggio, and Petrarch. You will also admire paintings by Flemish and Italian painters of the 15th-17th centuries, including Cosimo Tura, Pieter and Jan Brueghel the Elder, Pisanello, Tintoretto, Bartolomeo della Gatta, Sebastiano del Piombo, Salvador Rosa, Mattia Preti, Perugino, Guercino, Dosso Dossi, Annibale Carracci, Ferdinand Voet, and David Teniers. During the tour, I will talk about some of the artists, the heroes of the portraits, and the features of creating the works.
