About this experience
I invite you to visit one of the best galleries in Rome - Borghese, where works by great Italians such as Bernini, Raphael, Titian, Botticelli, Correggio, and Caravaggio are collected. I will tell you the history of Villa Borghese and its founder, help you understand, and most importantly - feel the amazing paintings. You will walk through luxurious halls, spiral staircases, and enjoy the magnificence of sculptures, chandeliers, fireplaces, and ceiling frescoes. After the tour, you can take a stroll through the surrounding gallery landscape park and contemplate your impressions in the shade of trees, accompanied by the gentle murmur of fountains.
What to Expect
History of the Borghese Gallery
You will learn who, when, and under what circumstances the Borghese Villa was built on the slopes of the Pincho hill, where the gallery was later housed. I will tell you about Shipione Borghese and the opportunities he used to expand his art collection. You will be surprised to learn that the paintings of great masters were often bought, confiscated, or extorted by blackmail. Villa Borghese is surrounded by an amazing landscape park where you can leisurely stroll, admire the beauty of nature and fountains after the tour.
Meeting the Masterpieces
On the first floor of the Borghese Gallery, we will pass through eight halls where, among statues and fragments of ancient sculptures, the best works of the 17th-century Italian sculptor Bernini are displayed: 'Pluto and Proserpina,' 'Apollo and Daphne,' and 'David.' You will feel that all of Bernini's sculptures seem 'alive' - they breathe, feel, and simply freeze for a moment. We will climb the elegant spiral staircase to the second floor, adorned with ceiling frescoes, paintings, and elegant fireplaces. Even during the cardinal's lifetime, works by the great Raphael, Titian, Botticelli, Correggio, and Caravaggio were displayed here. I will tell you the story of the theft of Raphael's painting 'The Deposition of Christ,' which belonged to the Church of St. Francis in Perugia, and other secrets and legends of the exhibits housed in the Borghese Gallery.
