We will briefly leave the bustling touristy Lisbon and embark on a road trip to the Setubal Peninsula. Cape Cabo Espichel will offer a panoramic view of the Atlantic, in the Arrabida National Park you will touch the pristine nature of Portugal, and by the Christ statue, you will learn about the country's history and culture.
What to Expect
The Cape at the Edge of the World
Driving across the picturesque 25 de Abril Bridge, we will head to Cape Cabo Espichel, where, according to legend, the Virgin Mary appeared to monks. You will explore the Sanctuary of Our Lady, the Memory Chapel, the pilgrims' house, and discover who truly left marks on the Donkey's Rock. From the height of the steep cliffs and rocks, you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the ocean.
The Blue of the Sea and the Greenery of the Arrabida Mountains
Translated from Arabic, 'Arrabida' means 'a place for prayer'. The emerald of the mountain slopes, the whiteness of the cliffs, and the azure of the ocean uniquely predispose to contemplation. We will ascend to the very top along the serpentine of the mountain range, at the foot of which stretch soft beaches, and witness an idyllic landscape: the Troia Peninsula, the ancient monastery, the Fort of Saint Mary, and the small bay of Portinho da Arrabida. Afterwards, we will visit one of the famous local wineries and, if desired, taste several types of wine.
Christ the King Monument - Gratitude from Portuguese Women
On the way back, we will stop at the Christ statue. This is a whole religious complex, including the monument and the Lisbon Sanctuary - two chapels, a library, exhibition spaces, and a cafe. You will learn about the statue's construction and be able to climb to the observation deck, from where you will see the cities of Almada, Lisbon, Montijo, and the Tagus River. Charge your cameras and phones - magnificent photos are guaranteed!
Organizational Details
- The tour is conducted by a Honda Civic car.
- We will pick you up from your hotel or any other convenient location and drop you back after the tour.
- Additional expenses: wine tasting at the winery - 3 euros per person.
- We will have Vinho Verde (young green wine) with us as a treat.
