About this experience
To come to Bangkok and not visit the Grand Palace is like visiting Moscow and not seeing the Red Square. In three hours, you will get acquainted with the key buildings of the complex, their functions, and architecture. We will stroll through the lush garden, visit the silk museum, see the Emerald Buddha Temple, and of course, delve into the history of Thailand's ruling dynasty.
What to Expect
Explore the Grand Palace
The doors, history, and secrets of Bangkok's must-see location, the Grand Palace, will be opened before you. We will walk through the area surrounded by four walls, admire the most beautiful of the 95 pagodas, and finally, thoroughly examine the majestic 18th-century ensemble where important ceremonies involving the royal family are still held. In a couple of hours, you will:
- learn about the history of Thailand through the path of the Chakri royal dynasty
- examine Queen Sirikit's outfits at the silk museum
- stroll through the lush gardens and appreciate the most interesting architectural details of the palace
- watch the changing of the guard ceremony and learn why the Thai guards wear uniforms similar to the Russian Tsar's army.
Emerald Buddha Temple: Traditions and Artifacts
In the Grand Palace complex, we will visit another landmark and at the same time a Buddhist sanctuary of Bangkok—the Emerald Buddha Temple. If in the palace the Thai monarch led a secular life, here is the spiritual one. We will look at the main relic of the temple, the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which, contrary to expectations, is made of green jadeite. We will talk about the mysteries and rituals of Thai Buddhism. And you will also understand the tradition of dressing the Emerald Buddha three times a year according to the 'season'.
Additionally, we can sail along the historic Thonburi canals on a long-tail boat: after looking at the King's possessions, you will observe the daily life of his subjects, who, like hundreds of years ago, live on the water in houses on stilts.
