About this experience
Venice is one of the most magical, mystical, and romantic places in the world. I will tell you about its rulers and first inhabitants, the secret of Venetian power and longevity, who after a thousand years of independence managed to conquer but not subdue the city on water. You will learn the history of Venice and the secrets of its construction, hear urban legends, and see great architectural masterpieces: Rialto Bridge, St. Mark's Square, Doge's Palace, and much more. I will help you immerse yourself in the mysterious Venetian atmosphere and feel the true soul of this brilliant city.
What to expect
History and legends of Venice
Venice is not just a city, in the past it was the magnificent Serenissima Republic, about which I will definitely tell you. You will also hear about all the Venetian districts (from the Ghetto to the Arsenal), each of which had its own purpose. You will visit Campo and learn what it is and why, along with the churches, why there are so many of them in Venice. You will climb to the terrace and see the most beautiful view of the Grand Canal. You will admire the ancient Rialto Bridge and imagine what it was like a thousand years ago and why it was called "the coin bridge". I will show you St. Mark's Basilica, one of the main symbols of Venice, and reveal the secrets of where they stole from, how they lost, and regained St. Mark. Also, why the columns of St. Mark and Theodore lay on the ground for a whole century and how they were eventually raised.
Walk along the embankment and the splendor of churches
You will see the famous Bridge of Sighs, which has seen more tears than smiles. You will find out why the bell in the main city square strikes two minutes earlier or later than the exact time and what happened to the person who built the chapel. I will tell you where and why not to walk in Venice to avoid trouble. I will show you the Church of San Zaccaria, which houses Giovanni Bellini's masterpiece that enchanted Napoleon. Finally, you will stroll along the splendid Slavic embankment, see the House of the Angel and learn its legends. Upon your request, we can additionally include a visit to the Cathedral of Santa Maria della Salute and the Embankment of the Incurables, dedicated by the famous essayist Joseph Brodsky.
