About this experience
In one day, we will visit two special cities. Besides being ancient and charming, they have their own unique features. Uji is the capital of tea. There you will taste the best matcha, grind tea leaves into powder yourself, and visit the fragrant tea street. Nara is the city of spotted deer. You will admire them in the park, as well as appreciate the local historical heritage - centuries-old temples and districts.
What to expect
Uji
- In the capital of Japanese tea, you will not only taste fresh local matcha but also grind tea leaves into powder using a manual stone mill
- On Omotesando Tea Street, you can buy different types of tea, cafes, try sweets and matcha-flavored ice cream, visit restaurants where traditional Japanese dishes will surprise you with their tea aroma
- But that's not all about tea! In Uji, you will also visit the ancient Byodoin Temple.
Nara
- Nara Park and deer. The main attraction of the city of Nara is the spotted deer. There are over 1000 of them in the park! They allow themselves to be petted and, of course, fed. The special feature of Nara's deer is that they bow before being treated.
- Buddhist temples Kofuku-ji and Todai-ji. Temple complexes dating back to the 8th century. Todai-ji Temple is considered the largest wooden building in the world, inside of which is a copper Buddha statue 15 meters high.
- Naramachi. A walk through the old quarter with traditional machiya-style houses will take you back several centuries. You will visit one of these houses and imagine how Japanese merchants and craftsmen lived in the Edo period.
You will learn:
- How the capital in Nara was founded
- What role the clergy played in the city's fate
- What are the architectural features of ancient temples and houses
- How the main types of Japanese tea differ from each other
- And much more
