About this experience
Kanazawa will charm you with ancient temples, samurai residences, striking parks, silk workshops, and gastronomic abundance. You will visit a geisha teahouse, discover the 'sweet chestnut' and lotus root at the Omicho market, and learn why the city's name translates to 'Golden Marsh'.
What to Expect
Samurai District, Ancient Castle, and Kenrokuen Garden
You will visit Kanazawa Castle, built by Prince Maeda in the 16th century, and the adjacent Kenrokuen Garden. One of the top three most beautiful parks in Japan, it will impress you with its spaciousness, delightful landscapes, babbling streams, and touch of antiquity. Just a 10-minute walk away, and we are in Nagamachi! This is the samurai district, where you will find cobbled streets, colorful mansions, and silk workshops.
Geisha House Chaya, Fish Market, and Local Traditions
In the historical geisha quarter Higashi, you will admire the charming wooden architecture, visit a Japanese geisha house, and enjoy green tea 'matcha' with traditional treats. Then, if you wish, you can visit one of the Kanazawa's gold leaf factories. Besides gold, Kanazawa is famous for seafood, sweet white rice, and unusual vegetables. You will be able to see and taste local delicacies at the vibrant Omicho fish market!
