Gyulbesheker and revani, shekerpare and pishmanie... 'Beauty's lips' and 'woman's belly', 'groom's cookies' and 'nightingale's nest'... Exotic names of Turkish sweets please the ear and delight the taste buds. During our tour, you will hear many interesting stories about Eastern delicacies, have the opportunity to try and buy the most delicious ones.
Program
You will learn:
- The sad and romantic story of a baker in love - the creator of the airy sweet pishmanie;
- The legend of the origin of 'small pieces' - rahat-lukum;
- Which Turkish sweet, according to legend, was made by Noah himself on the day when his ark landed on land after a long wandering on the waters;
- What sweet and salty Turkish coffee means during courtship;
- and much more.
In addition, you will be able to taste all these Turkish sweets and buy many of them to take home the sweet delights of Turkey.
Confectionery
Our tour will start at the famous landmark of Alanya - the Red Tower (Kizil kule). From there, we will climb a street that can be called a viewing platform, as it offers a magnificent view of Alanya port and the eastern part of Alanya. Here, you will find a well-known confectionery where we will make our first stop and try traditional Turkish sweets such as sutlach, kazandibi, keshkul, tavuk goyusu (dessert made from chicken breast specially for daring lovers of exotic flavors), and others.
Spice shop and Friday Bazaar
Then, passing by pirate yachts (Alanya was a city of pirates), we will reach the spice shop where you can purchase fresh rahat-lukum, halva, jeviz sudjuu (many know it by the Georgian name 'churchkhela'), nuts, dates, dried fruits, as well as natural spices, soap, herbs and oils, Turkish tea and coffee.
If our tour falls on a Friday, we will also visit the Friday Bazaar with its unique atmosphere and fresh fruits.
Local Confectionery
We will end the tour at the popular confectionery 'Turkmenoglu' loved by locals and city guests, where we will try the world-famous Turkish baklava, as well as less known but equally delicious kadayif, burma, 'folk' sweet - halk tatlysy, and ice cream from Karamanmaraş city, which includes wild orchid to give it a special viscosity and slow melting.
Organizational Details
The cost of the tour does not include the cost of tasting sweets in confectioneries. The approximate cost of sweets for 4 people in both confectioneries will be around 50 Turkish lira (approximately 17-20 euros).
