Eastern Flavors: Off the Beaten Path in the Heart of Istanbul
About this experience
The cuisine of our multicultural country embraces traditions of different peoples, coupled with regional specialties found throughout Turkey. You can savor this diversity in Istanbul. In authentic establishments with reasonable prices, you will taste interesting beverages, hot dishes, and desserts. Visit a bazaar with goods from the provinces. Along the way, we will share insights on the district's landmarks.
What to Expect
Rulers' beverages, exotic dishes, and a bazaar 'for locals'
You will taste sherbet - a beverage beloved by the sultans of the Ottoman Empire. At a historic location from the 19th century, you will try the favorite drink of the first president of Turkey, Atatürk - boza.
Later on, we will visit a renowned establishment where you can sample unusual meat dishes, such as kelepacha soup and beyran, among others. And, of course, we will not overlook traditional desserts like katmer and künefe.
An enjoyable bonus will be the bazaar, where local housewives stroll around, purchasing interesting delicacies and treats from various corners of the country. You can also delight yourself with original purchases.
Leisurely Stroll through Istanbul's Streets
Cafes and bazaars are not the only sights awaiting you. You will walk through ancient streets, admire beautiful mosques and 19th-century houses, as well as the ancient Valens Aqueduct.
We will pay special attention to the 12th-century Monastery of the Pantocrator. It is the second-largest monument of Byzantine architecture preserved from Constantinople. You will learn about its history after the city's capture by the Ottomans and hear about the person in whose honor the complex was renamed. From the terrace, you will enjoy lovely views of the city.
We will conclude the walk at the Golden Horn bay waterfront.
