About this experience
In the lovely Sremski Karlovci, everything interesting is literally within arm's reach. Baron Wrangel, Peter the Great, the Habsburg dynasty - you will discover an amazing interweaving of destinies and events.
What to expect
Patriarch's Residence
We will stroll through the summer residence of the Serbian Patriarch - a luxurious baroque palace - and visit the wine cellar to choose wine from the Patriarch's reserves. Nearby stands the mid-18th century cathedral. I will tell the history of the temple, and you will try to find its differences from traditional Orthodox shrines. We will talk about how the town became the spiritual center of Serbia, note the strange proximity of the Orthodox and Catholic churches, and remember the city's residents who once raised huge sums to create architectural masterpieces.
Wine Route
In these parts, winemaking appeared thanks to the Roman emperor, so the small town has as many as 17 wineries. We must visit at least one! Winemakers in the fifth generation will reveal to you the family history and dedicate you to the intricacies of the craft. Descending into the cellar, you will learn about the nuances of storing the drink and try a unique wine that was on the Titanic's wine list.
If you have enough strength, we will go to another winery to sit in a grape cart and taste a wine with the unusual name 'Force'.
Russian Trace in Serbia
You will learn what connects Russia and Serbia, and how the country got its first school and theater. You will see where after the 1917 revolution was the location of the Higher Church Administration of the Russian Orthodox Church abroad, go to the yard of General Wrangel, and understand why Serbs say 'Serbs and Russians - Brothers Forever!'
