About this experience
Croatia is famous not only for its seaside resorts, but also for its rich history. I invite you to explore the ancient period of the country in two cities - Split and Trogir. You will visit Diocletian's Palace and uncover its secrets. See the main cathedral of Trogir and hear about the fate of the city's defender. Intriguing facts and legends will be revealed to you on the tour.
What to Expect
Split: Diocletian's Palace and iconic spots
Emperor Diocletian's palace is the heart of the city, where its life began almost 2000 years ago. You will stroll through its vast territory and unravel the secrets of its structures. Examine the Cathedral of Saint Duje and understand why it was built on the site of Diocletian's mausoleum. See the baptistery and learn where the emperor grew cabbages. I will share many nuances about the city and its residents, including who built the Old City Hall, how locals call the Brothers Radich Square, and where the monument to the poet, who wrote the first book in Croatian, stands.
Ancient Trogir and its main locations
Just 20 kilometers from Split lies the charming Trogir. The city center is 750 steps, but it's full of interesting nooks, and we will explore them all! Admire the Cathedral of Saint John the Trogirian and learn how the locals call it. At the Iconography of Saints, hear how pagans executed a Christian preacher and what, according to legend, he said before his death. The Town Hall will reveal the history of Croatia's coat of arms, and the Renaissance Loggia will transport you to a medieval court. I will also show you where copies of the ancient god Kairos are hidden and explain why people try to 'grab him by the tuft of hair.' I suggest finishing the tour on a sweet note: we will buy ice cream and take a leisurely stroll along the city's promenade.
