About this experience
You will stroll through the historic part of Istanbul and the authentic districts of Balat and Fener. Enjoy breathtaking views from the best observation decks and immerse yourself in the amazing history and millennia-old culture of the city. You will also hear about the legends and mystical events associated with it!
What to expect
Multi-faceted Istanbul
You will learn where Orthodox worship has been conducted since the Byzantine era, which church is called 'iron', which mosque is made of steel, and what the architect Sinan is known for. In addition, the excursion program includes:
- Suleymaniye Mosque - located on a hill, it will impress you with stunning views of the city and its surroundings. I will reveal how many earthquakes the mosque has withstood and show you the mausoleum of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and his wife Roxelana.
- Golden Horn Metro Bridge - you will appreciate the city's most modern bridge and uncover the features of its futuristic architecture.
- Balat District - a 'city within a city' with distinctive history, architecture, and culture. Strolling along its ancient winding streets, you will feel the 'Medieval effect'.
- Patriarchal Church of St. George - the residence of the Patriarch of Constantinople since 1601. You will explore numerous Christian relics and learn why the prophet Elijah is depicted in fur on one of the icons.
- Greek Lyceum 'Red School' - a real gem of the Fener district. I will tell you who built it and what is happening with it today.
- Church of Mary Mongolian - a hidden treasure among the narrow streets and semi-ruined houses of the 'Fener' district. It holds special value for Orthodox believers. Worship in this church has been conducted since the Byzantine era and continues to this day. You will learn whose protective decree prevented the transformation of the church into a mosque.
- Bulgarian Church of St. Stephen - there are only a few of them in the world. I will tell you about its uniqueness and share the history, as well as interesting facts.
- Eyup Sultan Mosque - the fourth holiest sanctuary of Muslims. The gem of the city. You will uncover why it is considered sacred and for what reason it was built.
- Pierre Loti Hill - you will enjoy the view of the Golden Horn bay and relax with a cup of Turkish tea or coffee.
