About this experience
Want to breathe the cool mountain air, admire natural masterpieces, and walk among the clouds? I know such places! In the highest mountainous region of Adjara, we will reach picturesque mountain roads, which will already be a pleasure in themselves. And then - mesmerizing views, an exciting cable car ride, and getting acquainted with the local cuisine.
What to expect
Paradise nature
Rajah Khulo is the highest mountainous region of Adjara. And despite the fact that the absolute height values of 1000-2200 meters do not amaze the imagination, this height needs to be climbed from scratch, from the Black Sea itself. Our journey will start from the humid subtropics. You will see the Mahunceti waterfall and the arched bridge of Queen Tamara's times, and I will tell you about the fluffy Adjara mountains and local plants. Along the way, we will find out who, how, and why built arched medieval bridges across fast mountain rivers.
Amazing culture
Further, the road will meander along the gorge of the Adjarisckali river, and our conversation will shift from lush mountain vegetation to the tumultuous history of Adjara. We will talk about what highland zoning is, that is, the natural transition of zones and landscapes in the mountains. How many mountain systems in the world are similar and how they differ. And while passing picturesque mountain villages, we will talk about the fate of Upper Adjara. About centuries-old struggle and close intertwining with Muslim culture, about the price the Adjarians paid to preserve their culture: music, dances, cuisine.
Georgian Alps
We will take a short walk in the village of Khulo. I will tell you why it can be considered the first capital of Adjara. On the narrow streets, we will appreciate the contrast between the resort-relaxed Batumi and the strict mountainous Khulo. Here, even the bazaar square is a balcony overlooking the gorge! And then you will experience the most unusual public transport of Adjara - a unique cable car road without a single pillar, stretched over the gorge. We will ascend to the tiny village of Tago and enjoy another portion of mesmerizing views.
