About this experience
Mountain Adjara is a land of waterfalls, beech forests, and arched bridges. Traveling through it, you will touch the rich history of Georgia and admire its fantastic landscapes. I will show you the ancient Gonio-Apsaros Fortress and the 9th-century Queen Tamar Bridge. As well as countless picturesque natural corners. Of course, the tour will not be complete without tasting local wine!
What to expect
A vibrant day in mountain Adjara
Before heading to Mountain Adjara, we will first admire Batumi: drive along the promenade from the Sea Station to the airport. We will also visit the Georgian-Turkish border, where two religions, histories, and cultures converge. I will show you structures reflecting this dualism: the Church of St. Andrew and the mosque. In the main tour program:
- St. Andrew Waterfall - you will learn why Apostle Andrew is so revered in Georgia. Also, appreciate the waterfall's fortunate location: right opposite the Black Sea.
- Gonio-Apsaros Fortress - it is believed that Apostle Matthew is buried here. Additionally, within the fortress, there is an archaeological museum with exhibits found on its territory.
- Two-color river - you will visit the confluence of the Chorokhi and Adjaris-Tskali rivers and understand why it is called the 'two-color river'.
- Adjara Wine House - we will visit a cozy area with a landscaped yard and an abundance of different types of wine. For example, you can try wine made from local pink grape variety Chkhaveri.
- Queen Tamar Bridge - you will appreciate the ancient arched bridge located at the foot of the mountain. Despite being built in the 9th century, you can confidently walk across it to the other side of the river.
- Makhuntseti Waterfall - we will see the swift streams of water falling from a sheer cliff. It is a truly mesmerizing sight!
- Adjara Reservoir - you will explore the artificial reservoir created by human hands in the past century and learn its history.
- Makhuntseti Gorge - we will stroll through the magical gorge with suspension bridges, beech groves, and majestic waterfalls.
