About this experience
Often travelers exploring Bukhara limit themselves to the main attractions. My goal is to introduce you to equally interesting and significant monuments that are rarely visited by tourists. You will get to know the structure of an Uzbek house at the Fayzulla Khodjaev Museum, visit colorful mosques, and learn about the path of the legendary Sufi, Sayfiddin Bukharzi.
What to Expect
Traditional Uzbek House Lifestyle
In the Fayzulla Khodjaev Museum, you will get acquainted with the lifestyle of a wealthy 19th-century Bukhara citizen, see the preserved women's quarters, appreciate the intricate gypsum carving and complex ornaments adorning the rooms. We will also talk about the house owner, a prominent statesman of the Uzbek SSR who was involved in the early 20th-century revolution. Finally, you will have the opportunity to have a photoshoot against authentic interiors in a traditional Uzbek costume.
Zindan Prison Chronicles
Next, we will visit the Zindan Prison from the mid-18th century, which was once a place of confinement for debtors and particularly dangerous criminals. Here, I will talk about the judicial proceedings of the Bukharan Emirate in the 19th-20th centuries and share the famous story of European prisoners who have been in this grim place.
Sacred Bukhara: Tracing the Steps of Sufis and Theologians
Truly experience Uzbekistan's culture in the remarkable mosques of Bukhara. In the historical quarter of the city, we will visit the beautiful Khodja-Zainiddin Khanaka-Mosque from the 16th century with exceptionally well-preserved interiors. We will enter a functioning mosque where a 500-year-old sardoba reservoir is kept. We'll visit the Shi'ite mosque of Hodja Mir Ali, frequented by local Iranians. Finally, at the mausoleum of Sayfiddin Bukharzi, we will talk about the life of one of the most influential Sufis of Central Asia and the spiritual mentor of the Mongol khan Buyan Kuli.
