About this experience
Join me on a combined tour of Bukhara! In the first part, we will visit all the main attractions. Then we will take a break for a couple of hours: you can catch your breath, relax at the hotel or in a teahouse. Afterwards, we will continue exploring the city with renewed energy, but now focusing on its non-touristic neighborhoods. I promise you will enjoy it.
What to Expect
Highlights of Bukhara
You will see all the main sites of the city: the architectural ensembles of Lyab-i Hauz and Poi-Kalon, trading domes, medieval baths, and the Ark Fortress. Appreciate the oldest construction in Central Asia - the mausoleum of the Samanids - and the Magoki-Attori Mosque, built on the site of a Sun temple. You will also learn which medressa was built by Timur's grandson and the connection between Bukhara and the engineer Shukhov. After exploring the center, we will head to the country palace of Sitorai Mohi-Khosa. You will hear about the lives of Bukhara emirs, admire palace pavilions, and scenic gardens with peacocks.
Off the Beaten Path
We will visit two mosques with original 16th-century interiors: Balyand and Hoja Zayniddin. Enjoy the intricately decorated ceilings and discuss the medieval technique of adorning walls with filigree gold. Then we will walk through narrow streets to an abandoned reservoir and stroll through the ancient district, observing houses with carved doors. To conclude, we will visit a quarter that historically was inhabited exclusively by Bukharian Jews: we will find the ancient synagogue and mansions of wealthy residents.
