The Sufi complex of the city's patron, the palace of the last emir, the complex of the four theologians - you will explore the most significant buildings and touch the rich past of Bukhara.
What to expect
Medieval complexes: the fate of the holy Sufi and the four theologians
Baha-ud-Din Naqshband is the patron of Bukhara and a renowned religious figure. In the complex dedicated to him, you will hear about Naqshband's life: what made him famous worldwide and why he is called a holy man. You will learn about Sufism and dervishes, see ancient mosques, madrasas, and the burial place of the famous resident of the city. Chor Bakr is another medieval Islamic sanctuary. I will explain when it appeared and share legends about the four theologians and their connection to Chor Bakr. You will feel the spirit of the Middle Ages as you stroll through the complex, referred to as the City of the Dead.
Residence of the last ruler of Bukhara
Sitorai Mokhi-Khosa, the summer palace of the emir, will amaze you with a blend of European and Central Asian architecture. You will admire the bright interiors and stained glass of the residence and understand its complex layout. I will tell you about the fate of the last ruler of the Emirate of Bukhara, about the former life of the palace and its present. Afterwards, we will go to the garden to feed the peacocks living there.
Subtleties of Asian life: the everyday life and cuisine of Uzbekistan
Of course, we will discuss the residents of Bukhara and the country as a whole. We will talk about the characteristics of the Uzbek character and habits. You will taste delicious lamb, and if desired, participate in a culinary master class. A local resident will teach you the secrets of cooking Bukhara pilaf or traditional flatbread in a tandoor. You will touch upon Uzbek everyday life and learn about the lives of ordinary countrymen.
