About this experience
We invite you to a rich sightseeing tour of Samarkand! You will see all the most important and interesting places of the city: Registan Square, Ulugh Beg Observatory, Siab Bazaar, ancient mausoleums, and much more. And we will talk about the past and present, traditions and modernity, culture and cuisine of Samarkand.
What to Expect
Tamerlane's Mausoleum. I will share the history of its construction and discovery. And also tell about Tamerlane's campaigns, secret entrances to the tomb, and the reasons for the destruction of its side buildings.
Registan Square. On the main square of the city, you will hear a mysterious story about the butcher's tomb and discover what important knowledge can be gained with the help of mutton.
Historical and Ethnographic Park 'Eternal City'. You will walk through a modern park stylized as an ancient city.
Koni Gil Paper Mill. You will see the process of making paper from mulberry stems without using electricity. You will also observe cold pressing of linseed oil and the production of Samarkand ceramics.
Ulugh Beg Observatory. You will visit the ancient observatory with antique astronomical instruments. And see the grave of the scientist Vyatkin, who organized its excavations.
Saint Daniel's Mausoleum. Here you will learn what 'chillahona' means.
Architectural Complex Shah-i-Zinda. I will show you an ancient bathhouse and an authentic door with inscriptions dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad. I will tell you about the paints used in construction and the types of facings.
Siab Market. The main bazaar of the city, where you can try sweets, dried fruits, and buy souvenirs, robes, and headwear.
Organizational Details
- The tour will be conducted by me or another guide from our team
- The tour takes place in a Chevrolet Cobalt or a similar car of the same class. Transportation is included in the price.
- Entrance tickets are not included. Their total cost is around 25 euros per person.
- Midway through the tour, we usually stop by a teahouse for lunch. Food and drinks are paid for separately.
