About this experience
This excursion is dedicated to the past and present of Samarkand. I will show you the most interesting locations: you will visit the famous Registan Square and learn its history, stroll through the ancient necropolis Shahi Zinda, touch the secrets of producing 'that very' silk paper using 2nd century technologies and try traditional Uzbek pilaf.
What to expect
- Let's start the tour by visiting the mausoleum of Amir Timur - Gur-Emir mausoleum. You will admire the luxurious interior decoration and learn the legends associated with the tomb of the legendary conqueror.
- Then I will show you the hallmark of Uzbekistan - Registan Square. I'll tell you why it is called that way, when it was built, and what buildings are located on it.
- Shahi Zinda memorial complex - the next point on our route. Here, the 20-century history of Samarkand is reflected. Walking along the main street, we will admire the elegant tombs and, of course, peek inside. Along the way, you will learn where the 'Holy Grandfather' is located in the city, and how the talkative men and wise women appeared.
- Then we will visit the 'Konigil' paper factory, where you will participate in the production of silk paper using unique 2nd century technologies. After the tour, you will become true orientalists, knowing all the traditions and customs of the Uzbek people, uncovering the secret of making majolica, mosaic and terracotta, mastering the pottery craft, and perhaps even creating your own clay masterpiece.
- And, of course, what is the East without a hearty lunch! Samarkand pilaf - one of the most delicious dishes in the entire Uzbekistan (forgive me, other regions!). I will recommend you the best places to dine so that Samarkand definitely stays in your heart forever.
