About this experience
Welcome to the Dutch Tretyakov Gallery! Whether you are visiting Amsterdam for the first or tenth time: the era of the Dutch Golden Age is reflected in the facades of houses along the canals, the grandeur of the palace on Dam Square, and the ships and warehouses. On the tour of the Rijksmuseum, I will show you the faces of that era, staring at us from the canvases of Dutch masters, and help you imagine the life of Amsterdam 200 years ago.
What to Expect
Dutch painting masterpieces
We will admire the huge stained glass windows of the Celebration Hall, walk through the Gallery of Honor, and then stop at the main goal of our walk, the works of the Golden Age creators. You will study the paintings of the mysterious Rembrandt van Rijn and the master of genre scenes with hidden meanings, Jan Steen. Catch the details of the portraits by Frans Hals and the unmatched "master of the silvery light," Vermeer of Delft. Through these great paintings, I will introduce you to different aspects of the lives of the Dutch during Rembrandt's time. You will learn not only about the economic situation of the Dutch Golden Age, but also about what lies beyond the masterpieces: everyday life, customs, commercial, religious, and romantic passions.
Not just paintings...
The State Museum's pride is not only in its paintings. We will see models of ships from the glorious Dutch fleet and marvel at the interior of a 19th-century library. We will examine the setting of a doll's house, where everything down to the smallest detail was custom-made. Believe me, Barbie's plastic house fades hopelessly in comparison to this wonder from almost 400 years ago, which contains a total of 1600 miniature furniture items and paintings.
