About this experience
During the tour, we will explore the Egyptian collections of the New Museum, admire the bust of Queen Nefertiti, be amazed by the obsession of amateur archaeologist Henry Schliemann, who sought the Homeric Troy but discovered something much older and valuable, and get acquainted with the unique concept of the museum building reconstruction, which its staff are very proud of.
Program
Like all great women, Nefertiti is surrounded by numerous legends and mysteries. To this day, it is unclear how the staff of the Egyptian Museum in Cairo could release this beauty beyond Egypt. For what reason the bust was not displayed to the public for fifteen years after being brought to Berlin. And finally, the question that troubles all who have admired Nefertiti in person: why does the queen lack a second eye? I will help you solve these and many other mysteries - and this is just one facet of the remarkable museum!
You will learn about the 'Trojan Gold' discovered by Heinrich Schliemann, the originals of which were in Berlin until 1945 and were then secretly transported to the Soviet Union. About the statue of the boy from Xanten and artifacts from the Roman-German border that are already two thousand years old. You will also get acquainted with the unique concept of the restoration of the museum building, reconstructed just about ten years ago.
Organizational Details
Dear friends, recently, in the museums on Museum Island, a one-time tax of 35 euros is charged for each private tour. This tax is included in the cost of my tours.
