Once upon a time, ancient Lindos was one of the most visited places in the Mediterranean: merchants, sailors, soldiers, and travelers from all over gathered here. You will explore the third most visited place in Greece - Lindos and its legendary Acropolis, gifts to which were brought even by emperors. Walk through the ancient streets and touch upon different eras of Lindos: from antiquity and chivalry to modern times. And during our journey, I will tell you stories and myths that saturate every corner of this colorful city.
What to Expect
Trip through picturesque surroundings
By car, we will explore the city's surroundings and admire its incredible landscapes. Along the way, you will hear myths related to Lindos, learn about the formation of the three city-states and the local cult of the goddess Athena. I will tell you why Lindos was mentioned in Homer's works and what made it famous thousands of years ago.
History of the ancient city
We will walk through ancient Lindos, observe it from the viewpoint, and visit the Acropolis, which combines the grace of antiquity and the power of Gothic Middle Ages. You will see the architecture and frescoes of the Byzantine era, visit the beautiful bay of Apostle Paul, and learn how Christianity came to the island. I will guide you through the medieval streets, tell you how the Kalenda ritual originated in Lindos, how the maritime law code was created, narrate the story of the wise ruler Cleobulus, and reveal the secret of the mysterious Psoglavec.
Knightly Rhodes
We will also stroll through the city of Rhodes with its Street of the Knights. You will see the Palace of the Grand Master, the Knights Hospitaller, and the powerful fortifications. We will definitely walk through the alleys of the Jewish Quarter, formerly known as “Little Jerusalem.” Admire the historic Mandraki harbor, Italian Rhodes, and discuss one of the wonders of the world Ancient world - the Colossus of Rhodes. During our trip, we will try to find out where the bronze Helios stood, what it looked like, and what prompted the ancient Rhodians to create sculptures of such large sizes.
