About this experience
The abode of captains, the birthplace of Christianity in Rhodes, and the city-favorite of higher powers - I invite you to discover the multifaceted Lindos. Accompanied by a licensed guide-archaeologist, you will trace its path from ancient times, explore the ruins of the Acropolis, stroll along the bay and streets, meet the sage of the Ancient world, study ancient frescoes, and understand why fate loves Lindos.
What to expect
Lindos through time
The chronicles of this coastal settlement go back thousands of years, and the name is lost in the layers of linguistics. Accompanied by a licensed guide and archaeologist, you will delve into Lindos' past against the backdrop of its key places.
- Exploring the ancient theater, you will learn about a city-state, the role of theater in ancient society, and its connection to propaganda.
- On the high cliff, among the ruins of the Acropolis of Lindos, the mystery of worshipping a goddess and traditions linked to her cult will be revealed. Here, you will also enjoy the view of the bay, shaped like a heart, where Apostle Paul made a stop during his third apostolic journey.
- Strolling along the centuries-old alleys of the town, you will get acquainted with the lifestyle of the wealthy from the time of the Ottoman Empire, and in the 17th-century Captain's House, you will explore the architecture of that time, Lindos' trade connections, and the lifestyle of captains.
- Finally, you will immerse yourself in the world of Byzantine architecture and post-Byzantine icon painting by visiting the 11th-century Church of the Virgin Mary. I will help you decode the splendid frescoes depicting scenes from the New Testament and the Second Coming.
