You will immerse yourself in the splendor of Dolmabahçe Palace. If you didn't know it was in Turkey, you could mistake it for a residence of European monarchs. In the Kadıköy district, you will see how Western sophistication and Eastern features intertwined in an interesting way.
What to Expect
The Most 'Un-Turkish' Palace
The second residence of the sultans of the Ottoman Empire, a magnificent example of baroque architecture and neoclassical style, the whim of the Turkish ruler Abdulmejid I – this is all Dolmabahçe Palace. We will visit its ceremonial hall (selamlık), ballrooms, beautiful garden, admire the rich collection of paintings, discuss the architecture and palace life of the 19th century. Along the way, there will be many unusual photo opportunities.
Istanbul's Jewel – The Bosphorus
Next, we will take a ferry from the European part of Istanbul to the Asian side. During the 40-minute boat ride, we will see the Maiden's Tower, the main building of the regular army barracks (Selimiye), and the Haydarpaşa Train Station – an expressive example of German neoclassical architecture.
The Cosmopolitan Kadıköy
The center of Istanbul in the 19th century, rich and aristocratic, Kadıköy is now considered elite, youthful, and the most dynamic district of the city. Graffiti, music, Eastern scents, antique shops, street artists, bars, and restaurants – it has absorbed so much! We will show you the most atmospheric places, tell you how the Renaissance era began here.
