What to Expect
Luxurious Interiors and Stories of the Sultans at Dolmabahçe Palace
In the mid-19th century, Sultan Abdul-Mejid ordered the construction of a new European-style residence for himself - thus the most beautiful palace appeared on the shores of the Bosphorus. We will explore the Selamlık - the male half of the palace, where the sultans ruled the Ottoman Empire. I will tell you about the rulers who lived here: about ascensions to the throne and dethronements, about Atatürk and the proclamation of the Republic. In addition, you will imagine the ceremonies held in the palace and admire the crystal chandeliers.
Istanbul from the Water
We will cover part of the way to the next destination by boat, cutting through the waters of the Bosphorus. We will pass by the hunting lodge of the sultans, the 19th-century military school, the summer palace of Beylerbey, the Rumelian Castle wrapped in legends, and the Maiden's Tower, as well as under the Bosphorus Bridge. The walk will take place on a comfortable city ferry, but if you wish, you can rent a private yacht.
Also, if desired, you can replace the Bosphorus cruise with a walk to the Asian part of the city - to the Uskudar or Kadikoy district.
Istiklal: From White Emigration to Nightclubs
The underground funicular will take us to Taksim Square. From here begins Istiklal Street, Istanbul's Arbat with the famous red tram. Walking along it, we will talk about iconic buildings reminiscent of Paris, pass by passages and numerous cafes, consulates, and Catholic churches. Today, Istiklal has become the center of Istanbul's nightlife, and at the beginning of the 20th century, white emigrants from Russia lived here - we will touch on this topic. The tour will end on Istiklal Street.
