About this experience
During travels, we all love to eat delicious food. To ensure you don't waste money in random cafes, I suggest you take a stroll through the tasty spots of Almaty. You will 'taste test' the Green Bazaar, see 50 shades of Kurt, and learn interesting facts about the local cuisine.
What to Expect
City Flavors
Almaty is a large palette of flavors from around the world. Kazakhstan once hosted various peoples, each bringing their own cuisine.
- The main highlight of our tour will be the Green Bazaar - the gastronomic heart of the city. There you will find traditional nomad sweets, as well as smoked, boiled, and dried horse meat sausages.
- For the main course, we will head to a national cuisine restaurant. Smoking beshbarmak, fragrant baursaks, sweet treats from the famous Almaty aport - everyone will find a dish to their liking.
- For dessert, I suggest stopping by a chocolate factory store and stocking up on blue chocolates for your loved ones. You will learn how Kazakh chocolate is connected to Moscow and why modern Kazakh tea cannot do without milk from Russia.
The aperitif will be colorful stories. You will learn why Almaty is known as the city of apples, how local street food appeared and what do Turks have to do with it, hear tales about the fun gastronomic past of the southern capital. And I will also show you a cathedral resembling a gingerbread house.
